09/28- Hit the trail early today heading from Población de Campos to to Carrión de Los Condes. Chilly day today and it is clear that fall has arrived.

Walking through the plains here, I find them very peaceful and serene and can see why they claim this part of the trail a soulful walk. The journey today was pretty flat, on gravel paths the majority of the way. Of course I looked up and saw my crows following me and squawking like crazy at several times during the day.

Coming into the town of Villacázar de Sirga, I came across the beautiful town and it’s church which dates back to the 12th century and became a commentary of the Knights Templar, so I decided to go inside and have a look. It was spectacular!

Beautiful coved stone ceiling

Further walking on the trail, I reached my destination for the night, Carrión de Los Condes. This city is very old and beautiful and dates back to the mid 700’s. It was taken from the Moors in 791. The town had considerable influence and power in the area in the 13th and 14th centuries.

My albergue tonight was more like a hotel than a hostile with my own room, bathroom, and towels, soap, etc. was a nice surprise. This town was a bit larger so several of us ran into the pilgrims store and purchased some warmer hiking clothes.
My thoughts: I’m really enjoying this journey on the Meseta. I find the golden fields and beautiful skies to be breathtaking at times. Feeling very blessed to be on this journey and blessed by the people I meet who I share this experience with.
