Walk Day 23- Carrión de Los Condes

09/28- Hit the trail early today heading from Población de Campos to to Carrión de Los Condes. Chilly day today and it is clear that fall has arrived.

Beautiful sunset over the plains in the early morning.

Walking through the plains here, I find them very peaceful and serene and can see why they claim this part of the trail a soulful walk. The journey today was pretty flat, on gravel paths the majority of the way. Of course I looked up and saw my crows following me and squawking like crazy at several times during the day.

Crows again. This time singing and talking to me like crazy on my journey.
The “Meseta” of the Camino de Santiago. As you can see it’s flat for a far as you can see. Beautiful golden fields!

Coming into the town of Villacázar de Sirga, I came across the beautiful town and it’s church which dates back to the 12th century and became a commentary of the Knights Templar, so I decided to go inside and have a look. It was spectacular!

Great old doors in the small towns leading up to my destination.
So many fun little things on the way pilgrims or locals leave for others to discover.

Further walking on the trail, I reached my destination for the night, Carrión de Los Condes. This city is very old and beautiful and dates back to the mid 700’s. It was taken from the Moors in 791. The town had considerable influence and power in the area in the 13th and 14th centuries.

My albergue tonight was more like a hotel than a hostile with my own room, bathroom, and towels, soap, etc. was a nice surprise. This town was a bit larger so several of us ran into the pilgrims store and purchased some warmer hiking clothes.

My thoughts: I’m really enjoying this journey on the Meseta. I find the golden fields and beautiful skies to be breathtaking at times. Feeling very blessed to be on this journey and blessed by the people I meet who I share this experience with.

  1. These towns are just amazing and great that you get to see so many! What do they grow in these flat lands? It’s also like you are experiencing 2 seasons! Lol!

    1. In the flatlands it’s primarily hay, or sunflowers.
