Walk Days 41-42 – Amenal

Oct 17-18: The last two days I walked from O Coto through rolling hills, eucalyptus forests, and small villages. The weather has changed and itโ€™s now turned cloudy with rain intermittently. My destination today is the town of Amenal, just 10 miles from Santiago de Compestella, where the Camino officially ends. Iโ€™ve walked over 525 miles to this point.

Beautiful Spain sunrises! Almost like a painting.
My morning start of each day, Cafรฉ con Leche
Beautiful green rolling hills surrounding the Camino paths

The last two days have just been lovely. The paths and towns have been full of beauty and surprises. Sometimes Iโ€™ve got my rain poncho on, sometimes the weather clears and I donโ€™t need it. Most of the days have been filled with thoughts of the Camino since I started Sept 6th, reflecting on all the various places Iโ€™ve been fortunate enough to see and people met along the way.

The paths are now wet with rain and sometimes mud, so youโ€™ve got to be a lot more careful where you step.
Such beauty all around me. Comes in many forms.
Mike, Viola, and me celebrating 500 miles walked.
Many of the old villages have old crosses that honor a saint or pilgrim, as well as the stone streets.
When the skies clear, and I look up amongst the giant trees around me. So beautiful.
The cows just resting on the cool grasses.
My current location heading to Santiago.

My thoughts: Wow! Almost to the end of this journey. Hard to believe I actually walked across the whole country of Spain!! Today I hit over 525 miles walked, and tomorrow 10/19, I will walk an additional 10 miles and enter Santiago de Compestella, the destination for the Camino de Santiago. Crazy!! Iโ€™m continually filled with a ton of emotions. Feeling humble, appreciative of this life changing opportunity, and a bit sad itโ€™s ending, but also excited at the same time.
