09/26- Got up early this morning and headed out from Hontanas to the small town of Itero de la Vega.

Beautiful morning today in the plains of Spain. They say it’s supposed to be flat for a long while, but interesting enough, when I hit the city of Castrojeriz for my morning breakfast, and headed out back on the trail, I discovered I was going to have to walk over a huge hill called Alto Mostelares. It would take me up an additional 1,000 feet in elevation on a 12% grade. Ugh!

Of course, as usual, just before I began the ascent onto this steep climb, my friends the Crows came by to remind me I could do it.

This climb was steep and reminded me of my first couple of “ass kicker” days. But this time, I trudged up the hill with strength and had no issues making it to the top. The view from the summit was breathtaking and definitely worth the trek up to get there.

Once I began to walk from the summit, I was again on the plains, just at a higher elevation.

My thoughts: It was satisfying to climb that steep hill and do it without feeling like I was struggling. And the view from the top really did take your breath away. This journey is amazing and I’m learning like in life, you can’t predict what is around the corner. You just have to be strong enough to handle it and “climb the hill”.
